Bradley REACH Interview: Ilse Carrizales, PhD, Psychologist

Featuring Ilse Carrizales, PhD, Psychologist

Q: What do you love most about Bradley REACH?

This is such a difficult question because there is so much to love about Bradley REACH! I love the collaboration of the REACH team and that we are comprised of people from various disciplines and diverse backgrounds. There is a strong focus on teamwork which leads to a supportive work environment and in turn, allowing us to provide the best therapeutic care to our patients.

Q: What’s the best thing about virtual care?

If I had to narrow it down, it would be that we are able to work with people who may not have otherwise had access to care (i.e., rural setting, no transportation, illness, etc.). The virtual setting also makes it easier for parents to be involved in their child’s care as they don’t need to ask for time off work to meet with us.

Q: What can we all do to improve teenagers’ mental health?

Listen! Although listening seems like such a simple concept, it isn’t. Often teenagers do not talk to adults for fear of not being understood or fear of being reprimanded. As adults, we want to protect our children and correct their behavior but just listening to them goes a long way. When adults listen, we provide teenagers a safe space to talk about the good times in their life as well as the difficult.
