FAQs

  • Partial hospitalization provides structured, intensive behavioral health support for patients as an alternative to inpatient psychiatric care. They form an important part of the overall continuum of psychiatric care.

The Bradley REACH partial program operates five days a week, and patients normally stay in the program for 3-4 weeks.

Partial programs can be either a “step up” for patients who need more support than they can get from weekly outpatient appointments, or a as a “step down” for patients in the emergency department or patients who have had an inpatient stay and are recovering but need ongoing care.

Partial programs combine group, individual and family therapy (and medication management) with other supports and activities to help your child in their healing process.

  • Yes, we are an insurance-based program. We work with most commercial insurances in New England and Florida, as well as Medicaid in Rhode Island and Florida. We can also do single-case agreements with insurance companies. Please contact us to find out more.

  • Yes! The data we have gathered in the Bradley REACH program since we moved to virtual partial care in 2020 suggests that even though the acuity of patients entering our programs increased during the pandemic, children in our virtual partial show at least as much improvement as children in our in-person programs.

  • Safety is our first priority, and it is often helpful to have an adult at home, particularly during the first days of treatment. Some patients are able to participate in a program at home alone as long as there are not immediate safety concerns. The team will always have parents’ and other emergency contact details.

  • Our partial program operates during school time, and patients in the partial do take time out of school to participate. Many of the patients in our partial program would not otherwise be in school as they might be in inpatient care or have school refusal issues. For the majority of patients, we find that taking time out of school to focus on their mental health creates benefits that enable them to return to school and do better for the rest of the school year.

The Bradley REACH care team works closely with your child’s school to ensure they keep up on key school work, and we offer time in the program to support with this. We also coordinate closely with schools, especially around the time of discharge.

  • For all children in the program we have an emergency care plan in place, with parents and other contact details, and an ability to contact local mobile crisis teams and/or emergency departments.

  • During their time in the program, our patients pause their existing outpatient care and the Bradley REACH care team provides oversight of all therapy and medications. We coordinate closely with existing providers around the time of admission and discharge, to ensure continuity with existing care providers.

  • Family involvement is at the heart of our program. All our patients participate in weekly family therapy sessions, and we give families regular updates on their child’s progress throughout the program. We are always open to your feedback on the program and how it’s working for your child and family, and we work with you to get this at regular intervals during and after the program. We encourage families to do “virtual drop offs” with their teen at the beginning of the day by joining program briefly to discuss any concerns.

One of the advantages of virtual care is that it makes it much easier for families to participate. Often our families value the opportunity to talk to their children and be at home with them as they are in the program. Families can also participate in therapy sessions flexibly and from different locations during the working day.

  • We discharge your child from the program based on their individual needs and progress. As we approach the end of your child’s time in the program, we work closely with schools, outpatient and other providers to build on the gains that your child has made during the program.

We follow up with all our patients one month after they leave the program to check in on progress.

  • Our team of skilled clinicians will work closely with your family and the clinicians making the referral to Bradley REACH to determine if we are the right fit based on your child’s clinical and medical history, and their willingness to participate in this type of virtual, group program.
